The Hollidaysburg Community Farm Show is many things - its primary purpose is to exhibit products which show progress in agriculture and home economics.

But a Farm show is much more than that. It is a show of crops, of garden produce, of fruits and flowers, of fine things to eat, to wear, and of objects or utility and beauty produced by our home craftsman. But this still does not capture entirely the spirit of our show.

A Farm Show is "people"-people working together, people fraternizing with their neighbors, people showing other people how best to grow,to make, or enjoy things which make for enjoyable living, and finally people who take pride in their community, and are determined to see that same pride shared with or developed by their friends and neighbors.

Pennsylvanias county fairs are long-standing tourism that, for residents and visitors alike, virtually defines the character of those communities where they are located. There are 110 fairs spread across the Commonwealth and, while each is unique, they are generators of large amounts of intrastate, as well as interstate tourism.

Studies have shown that 35% of all fair visitors come from outside of the county where they are located, drawing Pennsylvanians and others to those counties to spend money. The volume of visitors to those shows is also huge, often being the largest tourist attractions within those where they are located and helping to define their character for neighbors and visitors alike.

Pennsylvania fairs are important and long-standing community features of the counties where they operate. Note the following facts:
  1. Pennsylvanias oldest fair is the York Fair organized 11 years before U.S. 1765.
  2. Some 85% of fairs here for 50+ years.
  3. Typical fair has been around 89+ years.
  4. Hollidaysburgs show has continued for 80+ years.

Pennsylvania fairs are found in 61 counties, with Lancaster County having seven such facilities, Berks, Blair, and Mercer each having five fairs and Fayette County having four. Seven counties have three fairs each and 14 have two fairs each. Every rural county has at least one fair.

The Hollidaysburgs Fair is registered by name as the Hollidaysburg Community Farm Show. Commonly it is referred to as the farm show. From the beginning in 1934, the theme of the show basically was a show of farm related items. In time it has grown to include additional areas. (Reference the current Premium book when available and shown else where in the Web Site).

The fair is classified as a Class D with certain requirements being maintained annually. One item of concern is meeting the premiums awarded to exceed $3500.00 minimum. The budget has been able to satisfy the requirement except for one year with the advent of a reduction in State approbations. It is hopeful that this will be avoided in the future.

The farm show is held annually in the Hollidaysburg Area School district sports building behind the Senior High School Building. The cost for the building was subsidized by a Grant from the States Department of Agriculture.
